What Should You Consider When Planning A Home Purchase?

Atlanta Home Buyers, Atlanta Buyer's Agent

1. Affordability

What is your budget? How much would you like to put down? How much should your monthly payment be?

2. Location, location, location

Do you need to be close to work or family, maybe in a specific school district? What type of community are you interested in: Urban, Suburban, Rural, City, Swim/Tennis, Empty Nester?

3. Style of Home

Start basic: Are you interested in a single family home, townhome, condo, or maybe a multifamily unit? Once you figure that out, get a little more refined. Is there a specific architectural style you are most attracted to?

4. Type of Purchase

What will this home be to you? Something meant to be an investment might require less specific criteria than a forever home.

5. Size of Home

Are you interested in acreage? How many square feet would be ideal for your needs? What about a specific bedroom and bathroom count?

6. “Must Haves”

Think about some non-negotiable you are looking for in this purchase. What items would you require in a home?

7.“Would be nice”

Now think more about what items of interest you could live without, but would really appreciate in a home.

8. Amenities

In some cases, certain amenities come at a cost. Are you interested in being part of an HOA? What amenities matter to you: maybe a pool, tennis courts, club house, etc? Think about what, if anything, you would like included in your new home or neighborhood.

9. Timeline

In an ideal world, when would you like to become a homeowner? Are you thinking within the next 30 to 90 days, or perhaps within a year? Remember, it is never too early to start having discussions with a realtor.

10. Yard size

Do you have any yard preferences? Perhaps outdoor entertainment space is important to you, or maybe a fenced in yard is of necessity because of pets. Think about what you are looking for in your yard, and what kind of curb appeal speaks to you.
